Broadwell AFC

As sponsors of Broadwell AFC we would like to congratulate them on winning the GFA County Cup Final on Thursday 23 April 2009 by beating Shortwood United Reserves 2v0 at Slimbridge AFC.

The game was a tense affair with neither side creating many opportunities in the first half. Early in the second half Broadwell’s captain Chris Powell was dismissed for a 2nd yellow card. This seemed to lift Broadwell who defended very well against increasing pressure from the continual Shortwood attacks. However, it was Broadwell who caught Shortwood out on the break and after some good passing through midfield Steve Belfitt was sent clear to slot home with 10 minutes remaining.

Late in the game the Shortwood keeper came forward for a corner, the ball was cleared to Belfitt who was brought down by the last defender. The referee played good advantage as the ball fell to Matt Foxwell who did well to calmly finish into the empty net from just inside the Shortwood half.
