Marley hurt on seasonal debut for Broadwell

BROADWELL drew 1-1 with Winchcombe Town on a dreary afternoon at The Hawthorns.
Things got even bleaker for Broadwell 15 minutes into the game when club stalwart Liam Marley, making his first appearance of the season, suffered a shoulder injury and had to go to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
The injury affected the home team who found the visitors quick up front.
Mitchell and Fitchett certainly tested the new Broadwell central defensive pairing of Andy Green and Scott Albon.
Robbie Smith, lively in his midfield role, gave Broadwell the lead on the half-hour, beating keeper Hill from close-range.
The wet conditions made controlling the ball difficult for both teams and referee Richard Johnson was called upon to reprimand a few stray sliding tackles.
Winchcombe were well organised going forward, but looked vulnerable to the counter-attack.
Craig Lewis and Dave Arnott tested the visiting keeper on several occasions.
Winchcombe made rolling substitutions throughout, while Broadwell opted to make their changes late in the game.
Winchcombe controlled the final 20 minutes of play – with Hughes pouncing on a loose ball in the home defence to equalise.
There were solid performances from Broadwell's Scott Albon, Guy Jones and Andy Green, with Delaney and Powell prominent in midfield.
Broadwell will be further tested this Saturday when Welsh League Division Two side Llanwern visit for a 3pm kick-off.
Last Saturday's match raised £126 for the Great Oaks Hospice and referee Richard Johnson added to the total by generously giving his match fee to the cause.
The match sponsors Griffiths Marshall rounded the final total up to £200
