A few more hills to climb

This year 7 members of staff including partner Steve Humphries have decided to take part in the Big Black Mountain Challenge and somehow we have managed to rope in friends, family and even clients to join us.

Over the past few years several member of staff and partners at Griffiths Marshall have put themselves forward for some tough challenges – The 3 peaks, ½ marathons, tough mudders to name but a few. This year 7 members of staff including partner Steve Humphries have decided to take part in the Big Black Mountain Challenge and somehow we have managed to rope in friends, family and even clients to join us.

On Saturday May 14, 2016 a team of 16 will be walking 50km taking in 15 summits over 660m around the breath-taking scenery of the Black Mountains. The event starts and finishes at LLanthony Priory located in the Honddu Valley in the Vale of Ewyas. It takes on average 12 hours to complete in what will hopefully be blue sky and sunshine!!

You may ask why we would do this, well a certain little man who goes by the name of Archie Thornhill captured the hearts of the staff at Griffiths Marshall. Archie’s mum Charlotte worked for Griffiths Marshall in the payroll department. Charlotte set herself the challenge of raising the money needed for Archie to travel to America to have surgery that will change his life. Unfortunately as a result of this Charlotte had to give up working full time.

Ambitions for Archie

Supported by the Superhero Foundation

Registered Charity Number: 1159572

Archie is 4 years old and was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy in July 2015. This means he can only walk a few steps unaided and suffers with lots of joint and muscular pain from his condition.

As a family we have met the founders of the superhero foundation who are supporters of our fundraising as we aim to raise the funds for Archie to travel to America for specialist neurological surgery.

The operation known as SDR – Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy would help Archie. This operation aims to,

  • Achieve a long term reduction in spasticity,
  • Improve Archie’s function and mobility,
  • Increase independence,
  • Increase range of motion and improve positioning.

Physiotherapy to help Archie would also cost huge amounts but could also make a huge difference to a little lad that just wants to fit in and not watch from the side-lines.

I hope you will join Griffiths Marshall in supporting this amazing cause. If you would like to donate please follow the link below to give Archie his chance to dance!!!
