Griffiths Marshall Gloucester Charity Golf Day

On Friday 24th September 2011 7 members of the Griffiths Marshall staff descended on The Forest of Dean Golf Club at Bells, Coleford to take part in the Griffiths Marshall Gloucester Charity Golf Day. The event took place in order to raise funds for the Scoo-B-Doo Society For The Benefit Of The Special Babycare Unit Of The Gloucester Royal Hospital.

After teas, coffees and bacon rolls all 6 teams took to the course, each with a member of staff and three clients, or for some teams a member of family drafted in at short notice! The set up for the day was a better ball pairs competition with the two best scores to count with full handicap allowance, much to some of our staffs dismay! Lynne Beaven had the important task of making sure all players were suitably fed and watered on their way around and offering kind words of support when most needed. The sun was shining for the whole day and an enjoyable day was had by all involved.

As part of the fund raising each player was able to buy two mulligan shots, one for a second attempt at the longest drive on the 16th hole and the other for another attempt at nearest the pin on the 17th hole.

The winning team was Steve Humphries and Ian Price from Griffiths Marshall with guests Alan Ball and Simon Joslyn with a total of 98 points just beating Sophie Dodds (GM), Steve Dodds, Peter Lee and Mark Emberson with 96 points. The longest drive was won by Steve Price (GM) and nearest the pin was won by Ian Price (GM).

The total raised over the day was £300 which has been handed to Tony Dodds, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity. Tony had this message for all involved;

"I would like to thank Griffiths Marshall and everyone involved in their Golf Day.

Scoo-B-Doo works alongside Gloucester Royal Special Baby Care Unit to buy the best and most advanced equipment available to help save babies in need of special care. A local charity for local needs.

I became involved when my son Neil and his partner Kate's twins were born at 26 weeks.
Aidan John weighed 1lb 14oz and James Anthony 2lb 7oz.

Unfortunately Aidan had been through so much in delivery and passed away after 14 hours.

James was in the Special Care Unit for 3 months and due to the excellent care and expertise
was eventually allowed home. He is now 8.5 months old and weighs in at a massive 15lb.

We pledged to raise money for the unit and you can see how we are doing on:
