A More Human Approach to Audits

Let’s be honest, most people don’t look forward to an audit. It can feel a bit like waiting for Ofsted to turn up. You know it’s coming, but you’re not quite sure what to expect, and it can create that tense, uneasy feeling in the background. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Our approach at Griffiths Marshall is hands-on, structured, and designed to make the whole process smoother. From day one, we agree a clear plan together, so there are no vague timelines or nasty surprises. You’ll know exactly what we need, when we need it, and how the process will unfold. Whether we’re on-site or working remotely, we stay in close contact with you throughout — no being left in the dark.

We don’t just tick boxes. We keep the audit moving, give you clarity on what’s happening, and make the process as calm and efficient as possible.

Who This Service Is For

If your company meets certain legal thresholds, an audit isn’t optional — it’s required by law.

You must have an audit if your company meets two of the three criteria:

Charity Audits and Independent Examinations

Under the Charities Act, charities are also subject to audit but at lower legal thresholds.

We also provide independent examination services to charities. The income threshold at which charity accounts require an independent examination is £25,000 but this will increase to £40,000 in line with the above changes. The independent examination must be carried out by an examiner with a professional qualification when income exceeds £250,000 (which will increase to £500,000).

Subsidiaries of Overseas Parent Companies

UK subsidiaries of overseas parent companies often require a statutory audit, even if they are small per the UK guidelines. Exemptions are available depending on the circumstances of the group and subsidiary so our audit team can assist you with determining your audit requirements

Your Audit Journey with Us

A well-structured audit is all about clear planning. When everyone knows what’s happening and when, the whole process runs smoothly and efficiently.

1. Year-End Stock Take (if required)

We often attend your stock take as the first step, giving us an early opportunity to carry out checks and get familiar with your business.

2. Pre-Audit Meeting

We sit down with you to get under the skin of your business. This is where we talk through timelines and what to expect.

3. Planning Phase

We’ll provide a clear list of the information we need from you. This helps keep everything on track and avoids delays later in the process.

4. Fieldwork

Our audit team will either visit your business or work remotely — depending on what suits you best. This usually takes between three days and a week, depending on your business size.

5. Closing Meeting

Once the audit is complete, we’ll meet with you to go through the findings, answer your questions, and highlight any opportunities for improvement.

Because we keep things structured and hands-on, your audit won’t drag on for months.
