Long service awards for 100+ years spark ‘bucket list’ trips!

With over 100 years of service between them, it was about time that some of the partners and staff took some time off to celebrate their long service records. Over the past two years Chris Bourne, Roger Apted, Steve Humphries and Colleen Wright have been celebrating their 25+ years of service with Griffiths Marshall.

All four of them joined the practice in 1990 and since then have seen it grow into the successful accountancy firm that it is today, now employing 18 staff across the 2 offices in Gloucester and Lydney.

Chris Bourne, now senior partner at the practice, joined as a manager in 1990 before being promoted to partner in 1991, becoming senior partner in 2000. He has overseen many changes including the acquisition of Jeremy Williams & Co in Lydney in 2006, the merger of John Arnold’s clients into Griffiths Marshall in 2010 and the relocating of the Lydney office to the old bank premises on the high street in 2013.

To celebrate his long service achievement, he was given time off to spend 6 weeks travelling around Australia and spending time with his son who now lives out there. Chris said, “It was the trip of a lifetime and I’m grateful to my fellow partners for letting me have this time off to take this trip – it was well worth it!”

Roger Apted came to Griffiths Marshall having previously worked for Deloittes. Roger joined as a partner and focused on working with smaller businesses, offering a personal and supportive service to them over the years. Roger has recently retired from the practice, but is still working for us in a consultant capacity. For his ‘bucket list’ adventure he visited Vietnam last August.

Steve Humphries also joins the ‘quarter of a century up’ club. Steve joined as a trainee in 1990 and qualified as a chartered accountant with Griffiths Marshall in 1995, before becoming a partner in 2000. Alongside his accountancy work Steve also runs a small sheep farm, lambing 220 ewes each spring. This mix of skills means he is best placed to advise our farming and agriculture based clients. Steve is currently planning how he will celebrate his long service.

Last, but definitely not least, in celebrating her long service award is Colleen Wright. Back then, Colleen was employed to develop and ‘computerise’ the admin department. Now, 27 years later, she is doing it again by assisting the practice’s move towards using online portals and document management systems for their internal record keeping. As well as managing the admin function, Colleen also provides support to all the partners and has day to day dealings with the clients. For her celebratory trip, Colleen spent a week at the Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, a place she loves to visit.

As well as demonstrating the longevity of service by some of the team at Griffiths Marshall, we’re proud to be able to show the career opportunities current and future members of the team can experience, if they are looking for a long term future in the accountancy profession.
